Drawing Code
2022
Pen / Paper
The drawing presented for Drawing Code, was made by three people. It consists of two freehand drawings done by different people – Ruby and Michelle – executing the same set of instructions, written by a third person. Both drawings were cut through their middle vertical axis, the left side of the Ruby’s drawing was then patched with the right side of Michelle’s. The instructions, which provided them with the coordinates of 6 points, dictated them to draw one continuous curve, during 60 minutes, going through each of the points an equal amount of times. The fact that the assembled drawing shows a certain continuity means that both original drawings, despite being done by hand and by different people, are very similar. The level of control that the instructions had over a freehand gesture is relatively elevated.
