Ten to One
2021
Paint / 6 axis Robotic arm / Econyl fibre / Hand-woven carpet
The work examines the ancestral craft of Al Sadu weaving , using analogue and digital technology to scan the craftsmen’s fingers, hands and the manipulation of the waft and weft of the fabric making. The extracted data served in the generation of both a handwoven carpet and the painting on its surface of human movement motives with a 6 axis robot.
The result of “Ten to One” is a carpet that was handwoven in Kathmandu and paint on by a six axis robot in Barcelona. The project was developed for and exhibited at Expo Dubai 2020 in collaboration with Iwan Maktabi and Qsar al Hosn’s House of Artesans, under the curation of Samer Yamani.
